The Oldest Meets the Newest!?

To celebrate the first anniversary of its concept store EDWIN KYOTO SANJO, located in the heart of Kyoto’s Sanjo district, EDWIN will release a limited-edition run of just 100 pairs of commemorative jeans on October 17th (Fri).

Inspired by Kyoto, a city where tradition and innovation coexist, this anniversary model embodies the perfect fusion of heritage and modernity.

EDWIN’s Oldest Jeans

When people think of EDWIN’s prototype models, the iconic 359BF released in 1963 usually comes to mind.

But even before that, during the brand’s early years, there was an even earlier pair of jeans.

Known among collectors as the “Cookie Logo” jeans, this mysterious model features a distinctive round logo printed on the label.

For decades, no complete sample could be found in EDWIN’s archives, and among employees it had long been regarded as a legendary phantom.

That changed when a denim collector, who had been following EDWIN’s official YouTube channel, reached out to us.

He generously donated a remarkably well-preserved pair of these “Cookie Logo” jeans, allowing EDWIN’s oldest heritage model to finally return home.

To celebrate the first anniversary of the EDWIN Kyoto Sanjo store, we are proud to release a limited-edition jeans. This model is a faithful revival of EDWIN’s oldest jeans, recreated with cutting-edge technology.

Every detail, from the double-stitch shape to the stitch width, has been carefully reproduced to capture the authentic feel of the era when sewing techniques were still developing.

These jeans embody the unique relaxed charm of the 1960s and offer both style and nostalgia.

Even the inner name label has been meticulously recreated to preserve the original heritage.

The Latest Technology

This anniversary model goes beyond simply reproducing EDWIN’s oldest jeans. The denim fabric is created using the latest technology.

Instead of conventional synthetic indigo, the fabric is dyed with EnzyBlue, a recycled indigo color regenerated from discarded fibers through advanced innovation.

“EnzyBlue” was jointly developed by NAGASE & CO., LTD.,, NAGASE・OG COLORS & CHEMICALS CO., LTD. (ONC), and Micro Bio Factory CO., LTD. (MBF).

The creation of this recycled indigo dye, long considered technically challenging, was made possible by combining the expertise of each company. MBF contributed enzyme technology honed through years of research to extract dye from discarded fibers. ONC provided knowledge in regenerated dye production, quality control, and mass manufacturing. NAGASE & CO., LTD., brought its extensive domestic and international networks in the dye and apparel industries cultivated since its founding.

By uniting these strengths, “EnzyBlue” was successfully commercialized as a practical and sustainable recycled indigo dye.

The anniversary jeans revive EDWIN’s oldest model using denim crafted with this groundbreaking sustainable technology. They help address environmental impact and resource depletion while celebrating the fusion of the oldest and the newest in denim innovation.
